Want to dread Mondays just a little bit less?

Let's face it, we all dread Mondays. As much as we'd like to, we can't avoid them, so we might as well make them a little bit better.

That all starts with our evening routine.

You probably don't want to hear about this new 18 step evening routine, and that isn't what I want to share either. Instead, I want to share with you one quick habit that you can start implementing today.

The best thing about this habit is that it is completely up to you to decide what it is. The most important thing is that you do the exact same thing every night before bed. Not the exact same routine, just one single task that you do ritually right before you slide into bed.

For me, that is plugging my phone in on my nightstand across the room; I immediately get into bed after doing this. For you, it may be locking the door or brushing your teeth if that is the last thing you do before jumping into bed.

Essentially, I encourage you to make sure that the last thing that you do immediately before getting into bed is the same every single night. This will allow our brains to eventually recognize this a precursor to sleep and will allow us to transition easily into a sleep state rather than lying awake restlessly and impacting the next day from our lack of sleep.

It takes our brains between 59 and 70 days to develop a habit, so this may take some time to feel natural. Until then, rely on your motivation and discipline and soon enough your brain will recognize this as a habit and as a precursor to sleep so that you can drift off peacefully.
